Golf Ball’s Aerodimple Structure Improves EcoContact 7’s Energy Efficiency
Continental has been chosen to equip the new Renault Clio with its tyres as standard . The latest generation of the compact car will come out of the factory fitted with the Continental EcoContact 7 in 16- and 18-inch sizes. The tyre has earned top ratings on the EU tyre label for fuel efficiency and rolling noise for both sizes.
The tyre’s high energy efficiency is achieved thanks to a new rubber compound, Smart Energy Casing technology, and its aerodynamically optimised sidewall design. The Smart Energy Casing technology uses new materials in the tyre’s carcass, liner, and sidewall to reduce internal friction and lower rolling resistance. The tyre also borrows the “aerodimple” structure from golf balls, which reduces air turbulence behind the tyre, enabling the vehicle to move with less energy.
The newly developed Silent Pattern contributes to the EcoContact 7‘s quiet driving by optimising the spacing and angles of the tread blocks to align with the noise frequencies typically generated at low speeds when driving in urban areas. The quieter ride is not only felt by vehicle occupants but also by pedestrians and/or residents nearby.
