The new Pirelli Scorpion SUV tyre achieves Class A wet grip across the range, offering superior handling and comfort for heavy-duty premium vehicles.
New Pirelli Scorpion Earns Top TÜV Ratings for SUV Safety and Comfort
Pirelli has launched the third generation of its Scorpion summer tyre, a product line specifically engineered for SUVs. The new upgrade of the tyre focuses on delivering safety, comfort, and long-lasting performance by addressing SUV-specific issues, such as greater weight and a higher centre of gravity.
The new Scorpion has been certified by the independent TÜV SÜD institute, earning the Premium Quality Mark. During testing, the tyre ranked first in dry braking and wet handling, while also securing top marks for wet braking and straight-line aquaplaning.
Pirelli said that the entire new Scorpion range has achieved a Class A rating in European tyre labelling for wet grip, a testament to its safety. The tyre also holds Class A or B ratings for acoustic comfort and a Class B rating for rolling resistance, ensuring comfort and efficiency.

To meet the demands of modern SUVs, Pirelli utilised an integrated design approach featuring a new tread compound to provide stable performance, stronger wet grip, and longer mileage. The tyre incorporates a reinforced structure and an updated compound to ensure uniform wear, while a new groove geometry and optimised profile improve handling and reduce noise levels.
To distribute pressure evenly and prevent deformation in the shoulder area, the new Pirelli Scorpion has been equipped with a reinforced carcass and wider central tread blocks. The tyre also features the Elect technology, which, the company claimed, can increase the range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles by up to 10 per cent.
Pirelli relied heavily on virtual methods to develop the new Scorpion. Its R&D team employed proprietary mileage-prediction tools to evaluate over 20 technological variants in a virtual environment, allowing engineers to optimise the compound and tread pattern before physical testing began. Driving simulators were also used to refine handling and dry performance.
The new Scorpion is currently available in 16 sizes, from 18 to 22 inches. Building on the Scorpion family’s history of 300 homologations, the latest generation already has more than 40 homologations currently under development with leading car manufacturers.
