Michelin launches Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy

Michelin‘s new Primacy 5 Energy tyres offer Triple A efficiency, while Pilot Sport 5 Energy provides high-performance longevity.

Michelin Reaffirms Summer Tyre Leadership with New High-Efficiency Ranges

Michelin has announced the launch of two new summer tyres, the Primacy 5 Energy and the Pilot Sport 5 Energy, designed to meet the evolving environmental and technological challenges of modern mobility. These products represent a shift in the industry, where performance, longevity, and energy efficiency are no longer viewed as conflicting objectives, regardless of powertrain.

Jean-Claude Pats, Michelin‘s Automobile and 2-wheel Business Line Director, noted that the industry has transformed on “an exceptional scale” compared to previous decades.

“The tyre is no longer just a safety element, but a true bundle of technologies, which must overcome all mobility challenges. With the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy tyres, we are opening up a new approach. These tyres embody what we want to offer car drivers: the option of no longer having to choose between performance, safety, long life, and energy efficiency,” he explained.

The Michelin Primacy 5 Energy is marketed as a “Triple A” tyre, having achieved the highest European labelling grades for fuel efficiency, wet grip, and external noise levels. It features Energy Passive 2.0 technology, which combines a functionalised elastomer, new resin, and optimised architecture to provide the best mileage in its category. Safety remains a core focus, with all sizes receiving an A-rating for wet braking and demonstrating an 8 per cent improvement in braking distance compared to the previous model, even when the tread is worn down to 2 mm.

The Primacy 5 Energy offers up to a 10 per cent increase in range for electric vehicles and a fuel consumption saving of up to 61 per cent for combustion models. It also provides an additional 70 km of range per charge. Regarding acoustic comfort, the tyre is rated A for external noise, which Michelin claims reduces the noise level by four times compared to a C-rated tyre. The range  is currently available in 33 sizes, from 16 to 19 inches.

Meanwhile, the Pilot Sport 5 Energy is targeted at drivers desiring a sporty experience without compromising energy efficiency. It utilises Dynamic Response technology and a brand-new Adaptive Grip Compound to ensure precise handling on both wet and dry surfaces. To reduce tyre wear commonly found in sport tyres, Michelin has employed MaxTouch technology to optimise the footprint for more even wear. The integration of an Energy Passive compound on the shoulders has further reduced rolling resistance levels, which Michelin claims is previously unseen in this tyre category.

The tyre’s durability and efficiency have been validated during a world record attempt by Concept AMG GT, which maintained a constant speed of 300 kph for nearly eight days. The Pilot Sport 5 Energy has been awarded a Double A-rating for rolling resistance and wet grip on 100 per cent of its replacement market tyres. This range is available in 19 sizes, from 19 to 21 inches.

Michelin said that both the Primacy 5 Energy and Pilot Sport 5 Energy are already fitted to a wide range of international brands.
