Carlos Bernabe is New Continental Tyre Plant Manager in Alor Setar

Continental, the international technology company, recently announced the appointment of Carlos Bernabe as Plant Manager for its Passenger and Light Truck Tyres and Two Wheel Tyres manufacturing facility in Alor Setar, Malaysia. He joined the Continental Malaysia team on 1st January, 2017, succeeding Juergen Jacobs Dowling, who led the plant for the past three years and is currently pursuing his career with Continental in South Africa.

“My main objective is to drive together with the Alor Setar team the business here towards the highest performance and deliver top products to our customers in Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region,” stated Bernabe. Prior to his new role, he was the Production Manager at Continental Timisoara, Romania. Earlier, he worked for about four years at Continental in Shanghai, China heading the manufacturing and quality operations for the APAC region as well as held various assignments in other countries such as Portugal, France and Brazil. Altogether, he has been with the company for nearly 37 years bringing with him a vast experience in tyre manufacturing management at the international level. He holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Quality Management from France, his country of origin.

The tyre plant in Alor Setar began operations on 20th December, 1979. Continental acquired full share of the company from Sime Tyre in 2012. Since then the corporation invested around €15 million in this plant, mainly to upgrade production equipment and processes. Employing about 1,100 employees, this tyre plant produces passenger and light truck tyres as well as two wheel tyres for Malaysia and the APAC market apart from China and India.
