Indonesia Plays a Pivotal Role in Hankook’s Long-term Strategy – Sanghoon Lee

Hankook Tire‘s co-CEOs, Jongseon Ahn and Sanghoon Lee, made their first official visit to Indonesia on April 23rd, 2025. According to the company’s official release, this visit is a part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its foothold in the Southeast Asian market.

Hankook views Indonesia as its main market within Southeast Asia thanks to its strategic position in the regional distribution network. Through the local production facility and various leading products such as the Ventus Prime 3, the Kinergy Eco, and the Optimo, Hankook has steadily bolstered its presence in the archipelago. Aside from Indonesia, Hankook has also established operations in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore.

During the visit, Ahn and Lee inspected Hankook‘s factory and its distribution network in Indonesia and held discussions on how to expand the original equipment (OE) tyre supply for global automakers. The co-CEOs also visited two key retail partners, Hankook Master Nawilis (a long-standing partner specializing in tyre and suspension services) and B-Quik (a rapidly growing independent automotive retail network in Southeast Asia), to discuss a collaborative strategy and how to make Hankook‘s retail service in Indonesia better.

“We continue to innovate to deliver the next generation of tyres focused on safety, fuel efficiency, and sustainability. Last year, Hankook received the FIA’s Three-Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest recognition for environmental commitment. This visit has given us valuable insight into the needs of our customers and partners in Indonesia, helping us to craft more impactful strategies,” said Ahn, who is currently in charge of global innovations, R&D, manufacturing, and quality control.

Meanwhile, Lee, who leads Hankook‘s global sales and marketing initiatives, said, “We are deepening our connection with consumers in Southeast Asia through strategic partnerships and locally relevant marketing. As a fast-growing player in the mobility industry, Indonesia plays a pivotal role in our long-term strategy.”

Ahn and Lee were officially appointed co-CEOs of Hankook Tire on March 26th, 2025.
