Demand for Hankook Tire’s electric vehicle (EV) tyres has experienced a remarkable 300 per cent year-on-year growth in Indonesia, signaling rising consumer confidence in EVs and their supporting technologies.

Hankook Leverages EV Growth to Expand Footprint

This surge mirrors the rapid expansion of the country’s EV market, which reached 207,000 units in 2024—a 78 per cent increase from 116,000 units the previous year, according to the Indonesia Ministry of Industry.

Bartek (Byunghak) Choi, President Director of PT Hankook Tire Sales Indonesia, commented, “Indonesia may still be in the early stages of EV adoption compared to other Asian countries, but this presents a valuable opportunity for Hankook to reinforce its position in the replacement tyre market for electric vehicles. The 300 per cent growth in demand for our EV tyres reflects growing public trust in both electric mobility and the performance of our iON product line.”

Choi also highlighted that growing awareness of sustainable mobility is a strong indicator that the market is ready to evolve. “Hankook’s iON Series has been engineered specifically for electric vehicles. With cutting-edge technology, the entire lineup is designed to deliver optimal energy efficiency, superior grip, and a smooth driving experience that meets the unique demands of EVs,” he said.

This positive momentum was further reinforced by the success of the 2025 Sarinah Jakarta E-Prix, which drew over 23,000 visitors. The event not only bolstered tourism and the national economy but also expanded public exposure to EVs and Hankook’s role as the official tyre partner of Formula E since Season 9.

Leveraging its involvement in Formula E, Hankook is advancing its strategic expansion across the Asia-Pacific region. During the “2025 Hankook Tire Indonesia Formula E in Jakarta VIP Event,” the company welcomed 23 distributors from Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam to explore regional collaboration and business development opportunities, particularly for the Hankook iON EV tyre range.

Formula E offers a valuable platform for Hankook Tire to deepen partnerships and foster long-term relationships throughout the Asia-Pacific region, especially in Indonesia,” said Peter Jung, Asia-Pacific Division Director for Hankook Tire, during his visit to engage with local distributors. “Indonesia is a highly responsive automotive market, and with the accelerating growth of EVs, the potential here is tremendous.”

Jung’s visit, which coincided with the Jakarta E-Prix, further underscored Indonesia’s status as a key reference market for the region – not only for its sales potential but also for its readiness to embrace the electrification of transport. This momentum is expected to drive stronger business ties and solidify Hankook’s role in the future of mobility.
