Hankook will supply the Ventus S1 evo3 ev for Hyundai’s next-gen Nexo FCEV in Europe, optimising performance for the hydrogen SUV.

Hankook Strengthens Future Mobility Role with Hyundai Nexo Supply

Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook) has been selected to supply original equipment (OE) tyres for the European model of Hyundai Motor Company’s next-generation hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), the all-new Nexo. The vehicle will be fitted with the Ventus S1 evo3 ev, an ultra-high performance tyre engineered specifically for electric mobility.

Hyundai positions Nexo as a central component of its sustainable mobility strategy. Featuring an improved powertrain, the SUV has a driving range of up to 720 km on a single charge. As the vehicle enters the European market, which enforces some of the world’s strictest environmental standards, tyre selection is critical for optimising performance.

Developed in collaboration with Hyundai, the 18-inch Ventus S1 evo3 ev is designed to meet the unique standards of FCEVs. The tyre utilises a high-stiffness bead design and a dual carcass structure reinforced with aramid hybrid fibres. This construction enables the tyre to sustain the high load and instantaneous torque characteristics of electric powertrains while ensuring handling stability, particularly at high speeds.

To support the vehicle’s extended range, Hankook has incorporated a specialised EV compound that significantly lowers rolling resistance. Additionally, the tyre features a noise-reducing design to provide a quiet ride, complemented by wide tread blocks that deliver strong grip on dry and wet surfaces.

The selection signifies Hankook‘s position as a key partner in Hyundai’s transition to future mobility. Before this, the company had already supplied tyres for other Hyundai Group‘s electric models, including the Hyundai IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 9, as well as the Kia EV3 and EV9.

The development of these tyres is conducted at Hankook‘s R&D infrastructure, spanning its Technoplex headquarters, the Hankook Technodome research institute, and the Technoring, Asia’s largest proving ground.
