GKV Logistic:
Significant Cost Savings
with Michelin Super Single Tyres
Covering six states in Malaysia, GKV Logistic claims that they are not only the biggest Shell LPG gas transporter in Malaysia, but also the biggest in the whole of Asia.
“GKV Logistic Sdn Bhd is a merger of three logistic companies: GP Logistic Sdn Bhd, KPK Sdn Bhd and Victogain Sdn Bhd, which came into effect on 1st May 2005. The name ‘GKV’ in fact is an acronym formed from the initial letters of these three companies’ names, ”explained GKV Logistics Sdn Bhd Operation Manager R. Puspanadan in an exclusive interview with Truck & Bus News.
Currently, GKV Logistic has 40 trucks and 44 drivers. Amongst the 40 trucks, only 4 of the 51 tonner ITG trailers are equipped with Michelin Super Single XTE3 385/65R22.5 radial tyres. These trucks travel from GKV Logistic in Lu- kut, Port Dickson to Ipoh depot daily, carrying one load per day respectively.
“We are the first LPG gas transporter that uses Super Single tyres in Malaysia,” added Puspanadan, “and we are happy that we have made the right decision.”
Comparing to the conventional dual tyres, Managing Director Danny Liow said, the Michelin Super Single tyres provide significant cost savings. Super Single tyres are able to provide better mileage as compared to dual tyres. The Michelin Super Single XTE3 385/65R22.5 tyres had clocked 100,000km on average, travelling mainly on highways and covering about 10% of the journey on trunk roads. It can also be retreaded, which will give another 50,000km on average.
“Being able to lower the weight of the vehicle is a big advantage. Super Sin- gles typically are lighter than a standard dual set up. Fuel saving is achieved by the reduced weight and rolling resistance of tyres and wheels, thereby re- ducing load on the engine. This allows more payload, especially for general cargo, which provides more income on each load,” stressed Liow.
