Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre Earns Global Awards for Smart Tyre Technology

Pirelli Cyber Tyre connected tyre technology

Global juries have recognised Pirelli Cyber Tyre for advancing vehicle safety through real-time data and connectivity.

Recognition for Cyber Tyre Reflects Tyres’ Evolving Role to Generate Data

Pirelli‘s Cyber Tyre technology received three international awards late last year, highlighting growing interest in connected tyre systems as the industry moves toward smarter vehicles.

The Italian tyre maker said the technology was recognised in France with a Safety Award at the Automobile Awards, won the SafetyBest 2026 title from European automotive jury Autobest, and was cited by U.S.-based market analysis firm Frost & Sullivan, which named Pirelli “Company of the Year” for innovation in the global smart automotive tyre market.

The awards followed Cyber Tyre‘s recognition at the Autotech Breakthrough Awards in the United States in October 2025, where it was named the most innovative technology in the tyre sector.

The Automobile Awards jury, composed of auto industry experts, praised Cyber Tyre‘s contribution to vehicle safety, pointing to its ability to transmit real-time road and tyre data to a vehicle’s electronic control systems. Sensors embedded in the tyres send information such as pressure, temperature, and acceleration to the vehicle, allowing systems such as braking and stability control to respond more appropriately.

Autobest said it awarded its SafetyBest 2026 title to Pirelli for the “pioneering development” of Cyber Tyre technology, describing it as a significant advance in automotive safety following extensive testing and analysis by its jury, which represents 32 European countries.

Meanwhile, Frost & Sullivan said its Company of the Year Award reflected how Cyber Tyre demonstrates the potential for digital systems to transform traditionally mechanical automotive components by integrating tyres into connected vehicles.

Andrea Casaluci, CEO of Pirelli, said the recognitions confirm a shift in the role of tyres, which are increasingly becoming data-generating components rather than purely mechanical ones.

“Today, the tyre continues to evolve, and to its primary purpose, a new one has been added: thanks to Pirelli Cyber Tyre, it has begun to collect and transmit data, processed through algorithms developed by Pirelli. These enable new functionalities, both within vehicle electronics and in relation to road infrastructure, with development potential that looks toward smart cities and autonomous driving,” Casaluci said.

“Digitalisation and connectivity are essential pillars for designing future mobility, and our technology—the first of its kind in the tyre world—has embraced them, as confirmed by these awards and by our collaborations with leading car manufacturers,” he added.

Cyber Tyre has been under development for more than two decades and is now being deployed on production vehicles in collaboration with carmakers and technology partners. The first application appeared in 2021 on the McLaren Artura, followed by Audi’s RS 4 Avant Edition 25 Years in 2024 and the Pagani Utopia Roadster in 2025. Pirelli said Aston Martin is set to adopt the technology on future models.

Pirelli Cyber Tyre system integrates with vehicle electronics such as ABS, ESP, and traction control, and supports vehicle-to-everything connectivity. This allows tyre data to be shared with infrastructure and other vehicles as part of smart roads and future autonomous driving applications.
