Bridgestone developed a Potenza Race tyre for the VW Golf GTI Edition 50, enabling the fastest Nürburgring lap ever by a VW production model.
The Bridgestone Potenza Race Features a Special Volkswagen Marking
Bridgestone has developed a special tyre to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Volkswagen (VW) Golf GTI. The tyre, Potenza Race semi-slicks, is a bespoke model for the new VW Golf GTI Edition 50.
The Golf GTI Edition 50 is the fastest and most powerful GTI to date and Bridgestone‘s Potenza Race is developed to match and enhance its high-performance capabilities. VW introduced the car at the 24H Nürburgring where it set the best lap time for a VW production model at the track. Using the Bridgestone Potenza Race, the Golf GTI Edition 50 completed a lap of 20.82 kilometres in just 07:46:13.
The Bridgestone Potenza Race features a high-grip compound with an optimised cavity profile for maximum dry performance, a tread pattern designed to provide stability on wet surfaces, and a “high-strength, lightweight carcass” to reduce rolling resistance.

Bridgestone is the exclusive tyre supplier for the optional GTI-performance package for the Golf GTI Edition 50. The vehicle’s 19-inch Bridgestone Potenza Race (235/35 R19 91Y), which is developed and produced in Europe, features a special Volkswagen sidewall marking, highlighting the tyre’s exclusive development for this model.
