BKT invested US$2.25 million to establish a sports rehabilitation centre at KEM Hospital, offering advanced injury treatment, surgery, and recovery for India’s athletes.
BKT’s Rehab Centre Can Serve More than 1,000 Athletes per Year
Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT), through its CSR arm, the BKT Foundation, has established a state-of-the-art Sports Injury and Rehabilitation Centre at the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital, Mumbai, spanning over 15000 sq. feet within the premises. BKT views this move as a demonstration of its commitment to supporting India’s rapidly evolving sports ecosystem.
The rehab centre was inaugurated on December 14, 2025, by Arvin Poddar, Chairman and Managing Director of BKT, and Vijayalaxmi Poddar, Chairperson of BKT-CSR Committee. Bhushan Gagrani, Municipal Commissioner at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), attended the event as the Chief Guest. Dr Vipin Sharma (Additional Commissioner of BMC), Sharad Ughade (Deputy Municipal Commissioner of BMC), and Dr Sangeeta Ravat (Dean at KEM Hospital) were also present.
Mrs Poddar said the rehab centre reflects the values BKT stands for: Care, Dignity, Accessibility, and Empowerment. “Our goal was to create a space where healing is dignified and where every athlete feels supported at every stage of recovery. We want our youth to believe that their dreams are achievable, and we stand with them as they pursue excellence,” she noted.
BKT hopes the newly opened centre can provide world-class rehabilitation services to athletes, enabling faster recovery, improved performance, and enhanced readiness for all competitions. It has the capacity to assist more than 1,000 athletes annually and perform over 500 specialised surgeries. The company regards it as “one of the most comprehensive rehabilitation hubs” in western India.
Dr Roshan Wade, a sports specialist and professor at the Department of Orthopaedics at GS Medical College, is set to lead the rehab centre. His team will comprise a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, therapists, and nutritionists.
Facilities include a 20-bedded ward, a modern operating theatre with three fully-equipped operating rooms, ICU-supported postoperative care, and a comprehensive rehab unit. The centre is also equipped with technologies, such as Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, underwater and zero-gravity treadmills, virtual reality-based rehab systems, and a dedicated gait laboratory.
In addition, the OPD (Outpatient Department) complex boasts consultation rooms and in-house radiography, including X-ray and scannogram facilities, along with a range of interventional therapies, namely Tecar, laser, ultrasonic, shockwave, and electrotherapy.
Through the BKT Foundation, BKT has spent around US$2.25 million to build the centre. The company has also signed a multi-year agreement with equipment suppliers, which includes long-term maintenance and infrastructure support.
“At BKT, we believe progress truly happens when communities move forward together. ‘Growing Together’ is more than a motto for us. It guides our decisions. By creating this centre with KEM Hospital and the BMC, we want to make world-class treatment accessible to every athlete. We are confident this facility will help many sportspersons return stronger,” Mr Poddar said.
