Malaysia Vehicle Sales Ease After October Peak, MAA Says

Passenger vehicles in Malaysia

Vehicle sales in Malaysia eased in November, with BEV demand and promotions sustaining market momentum, according to latest MAA report.

Auto Sales Remain Resilient Despite Post-Peak Slowdown

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) reported a moderation in vehicle sales following October’s peak. However, overall industry performance remained strong on the back of sustained promotions and ongoing demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

In November 2025, 67,308 passenger vehicles were sold, representing a 5.8 per cent increase compared with the same month last year. Meanwhile, 5,201 commercial vehicles were sold during the month, up one per cent year-on-year.

Despite the positive monthly performance, however, year-to-date figures continued to trail last year’s levels. From January to November 2025, 673,751 passenger vehicles were sold, showing practically no variance compared with the same period the previous year. Commercial vehicles, on the other hand, suffered an 11 per cent decline with only 54,085 units sold, compared to 61,067 units last year.

Production performance remained mixed. In November 2025, a total of 62,920 vehicles were produced, comprising 58,993 passenger vehicles and 3,896 commercial vehicles, marking a two per cent increase year-to-year. On a year-to-date basis, total vehicle production stood at 680,713 units, down six per cent from last year.

The MAA noted that Total Industry Volume (TIV) for November 2025 declined by 4.6 per cent month-on-month, compared with October 2025’s 75,991 units. Nevertheless, November’s sales performance remained strong, supported by the continuation of aggressive promotional campaigns and a rush to purchase fully imported (CBU) BEVs following the National Budget 2026 announcement on the expiry of tax exemptions by the end of December.

Looking ahead, the MAA expects the strong sales momentum to continue into December 2025.
