Combining low rolling resistance, high mileage, and reduced urban noise, the Continental EcoContact 7 is well-suited to electric vehicle applications.
Continental EcoContact 7 Brings Aerodimple Technology to Smart #5
Continental has announced that its EcoContact 7 tyre in sizes 255/45 R20 and 255/40 R21 has been selected to equip the new all-electric Smart #5 SUV.
Both sizes of the EcoContact 7 carry the XL marking for increased load capacity and are approved for speeds up to 240 km/h. The Smart #5 is, to date, the manufacturer’s largest-ever vehicle.
The EcoContact 7 summer tyre is designed around aerodynamic efficiency, with a sidewall featuring the so-called “aerodimple structure” inspired by the surface of a golf ball. The sidewall surface reduces air turbulence behind the tyre and lowers the energy required to keep the vehicle moving.
The tyre also features newly developed materials in the carcass, inner layer, and sidewall that further reduce internal friction and rolling resistance. It is complemented by an adapted rubber compound to enhance energy efficiency.
Incorporating Continental‘s silent pattern tread design, which targets rolling noise reduction at speeds around 50 km/h, the tyre is suitable for urban driving. The combination of low rolling resistance, high mileage, and reduced rolling noise makes the EcoContact 7 well-suited to electric vehicle applications.
