Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. (Yokohama Rubber) has been chosen as the original equipment (OE) tyre supplier for Daihatsu Motor’s (Daihatsu) new commercial-use mini-BEVs (battery electric vehicles), the e-Hijet Cargo and e-Atrai, which were launched last month in Japan.

Both the e-Hijet Cargo and the e-Atrai are equipped with Yokohama Rubber‘s BluEarth-Van RY55 tyres in size 145/80R12 86/84N LT.

The Hiratsuka-based company said the BluEarth-Van RY55 is an energy-efficient tyre specifically engineered for vans. It provides both enhanced wear resistance and strong wet performance. The tyre also offers more durability to handle BEVs’ high loads that come from their batteries.

The BluEarth-Van RY55 utilises a compound that improves rolling resistance, making it a fuel-efficient option for commercial use. In addition, the tyre’s tread rubber thickness and profile have been engineered to provide more safety and stability on wet surfaces, as well as ride comfort.

The e-Hijet Cargo and e-Atrai are Daihatsu’s first mass-produced BEVs. Both feature the newly developed e-Smart Electric BEV system optimised for smaller vehicles and accommodate a large-capacity battery without compromising interior space. The vans can achieve a cruising range per charge of 257 km.

Yokohama Rubber currently focuses on developing tyres using its BluEarth technology, with many of these tyres having been selected as original equipment tyres for a wide variety of vehicles, from ICE vehicles to BEVs, and from commercial vans to latest-model saloons.
