The team from Newera Automotive Academy won the recent Mechanics Challenge 2017, which was held during the Automechanika Kuala Lumpur exhibition that ran from 23rd to 25th March at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The Academy selected 4 of its former students to take part in the Challenge and the team, comprising Ng Weizong, Mohamad Ammar Kamaruddin, Tan Joo Keat and Rahizuan Razali, emerged as the grand champion.
Ten teams took the preliminary test on 11th January, 2017 at the Centre for Instructor and Advance Skill Training (CIAST), with the 8 finalist teams competing for the title of champions. During the final round, each team had to diagnose the car malfunction and repair the defects with the highest quality workmanship possible within the allocated time. The score was tallied based on the best-performed repair and diagnostic skills.
The champion Mechanics Challenge team received RM7,000, a trophy and certificates. The first runner-up received RM5,000, a trophy and certificates, second runner-up RM3,000, a trophy and certificates, and teams from fourth to eighth place each received RM1,000 and certificates.
