In its first year of participation in the legendary 24 Hours Nürburgring Race, the Giti Tire-sponsored Dörr Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3 achieved excellent results, conquering the demanding track and placing an impressive 2nd in the SP8 category. Despite a loss of 20 minutes due to a gearbox breakdown, Giti tyres could carry the Lamborghini through difficult track and weather conditions in this race that truly pushes the limits of man, vehicle and tyres. To complete this gruelling 24-hour race of nearly 3,900km was already a challenge and to be placed so high among top global competitors is a big milestone in Giti Tire’s continued motor sports success.
While this race had been completed, it is just the beginning for Giti Tire. Through the valuable experience and data collected, Giti believes it could further tune its tyres and performance, both for future races as well as for everyday tyres for consumers. Being the ‘ultimate proving ground’, nothing else could prepare tyres as much as in such challenging circumstances of speed, endurance and competition. The successful partnership of Giti Tire and Dörr Motorsports was announced in November last year. “Giti is a world renowned tyre business with strong racing genes. I visited the Giti R&D centre, which gave me confidence in Giti’s design capability and product quality,” said Rainer Dörr at the time. Phang Wai Yeen also expressed the same excitement. “As Giti and Dörr partnered up, we expected a new milestone to be set for the Nürburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race in May 2017. We will continue to combine our racing genes with R&D and passenger car tyre manufacturing to provide better and safer tyres for car owners and make Giti the top choice for them.”
The Nürburgring race track was established in 1927 and is now among the largest and most famous race venues in the world. Known as the ‘Green Hell’, the track is 26km with 177 turns and a vertical drop of 300 metres. Its difficulty level and varied road and weather conditions make it an ideal baseline for vehicle and tyre assessment. The Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race draws more than 200,000 spectators from around the world.
In recent years, Giti Tire has become a major player in global motor sports. With leading R&D capabilities and reliable tyre qualities, the company is recognised for its experience on extreme race tracks. Giti has won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima, claimed the GTC championship at the 2015 Sepang 12-Hour Endurance Race with its Lamborghini against top global automotive and tyre manufacturers, and featured its tyres and branding in major on and off-road race events in all continents, including the Formula Masters China Series, Formula DRIFT USA, among others.
