Westlake Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd recently sponsored three drift cars to form Team Westlake Malaysia. The three drifters were Lee Mun Hoong, Ivan Choo and Wilson Chang.
Westlake Marketing Backs Team Westlake Malaysia Drift as Sponsors
Kelvin Khor, Sales Manager of Westlake Marketing, was the Manager for Team Westlake Malaysia. According to Khor, the tyres of the three drifts cars were fully sponsored by the company and they were involved in two events.
The first event was the Drift Gonzo Competition, which was launched at the biggest local car racing event, the Malaysia Speed Festival (MSF), as its first ever drift challenge. It was held during the MSF finale on 2nd December, 2017 at the Sepang International Circuit. Westlake Sport RS in 2 sizes, 265/35/18 and 235/40/18, were the sponsored tyres.
“Sport RS is an ideal drifting tyre with a special design and components based on competition experience. Its asymmetric tread design with big pattern blocks and special compound provides superior grip ability. Better grip in dry conditions and enhanced high-speed stability were achieved through its continuous centre rib,” Khor said.
Ivan Choo in his Nissan Fairlady Z350 was the champion of the MSF Drift Gonzo Competition Pro Comp category. Lee Mun Hoong in his Nissan Silvia S14 scored well to take 3rd position and Wilson Chang in his Nissan Silvia 189SX took 6th place.
Apart from that, the team also took part in a Drift Demo event during the Motonation 2017 exhibition that was held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Putrajaya from 1st to 3rd December, 2017. Westlake SA37 size 235/40/18 was used during the demo.
Khor said the SA37 was a new generation of asymmetric ultra-high performance tyre that featured a silica tech compound to enhance wet grip and provide shorter braking distance. Its strong centre rib guaranteed excellent handling on both wet and dry surfaces and on-centre feel.
Westlake Marketing Malaysia also participated in the Motonation 2017 exhibition by taking two booths in the indoor exhibition area. The full range of Westlake tyres was on display with its sales team on hand to provide more information to visitors. Souvenirs were given out by Westlake ambassadors.
